Ocean Energy: Wave and Tidal Power

Ocean energy technologies capture the natural movement of waves and tides to generate electricity. Wave energy converters and tidal turbines transform the kinetic energy of ocean currents into usable power. These renewable technologies offer significant potential because ocean movements are predictable and consistent. Coastal regions around the world can benefit from ocean energy systems as part of their renewable energy mix. Although still in early stages of commercialization, research and pilot projects are demonstrating the viability of these technologies. Continued innovation in marine engineering and environmental assessment is helping improve efficiency and reduce costs. Ocean energy could become an important contributor to the future global renewable energy portfolio.
